TAMARA DEAN – photographer, Australie
Tamara Dean is an Australian photo media artist whose practice explores the relationship between humans and the natural world in contemporary Western society
She displays her new series « Instinctual » in Sydney, galerie Martin Browne Contemporary from 02 to 28 February 2017.
My work explores the relationship between humans and the natural world and the role of instinct in our contemporary lives. Natural cycles within time and space contribute to my way of investigating and engaging with the world around me.
My practice relies on my subjects experiencing and engaging with their environment. The action of ‘going to’ and experiencing the location and subsequent ritual is as important as the photographic representation at the end.
The sense of upper-world and underworld within these works is representative of consciousness and the subconscious.
The absence of clothing and natural setting is designed to symbolise a universal sense of humanity and our inherent animalism.
An acknowledgment that we are indeed a part of nature.
